We have a fairly free day today due to the Christchurch earthquake September 9, 2010, and the needed change in our itinerary. The Heartland Hotel is very comfortable and the town of Blenheim is so clean and the people are friendly. There are many shops in the shopping area of town. We have the option of resting and relaxing, or our choice of excursions. A few of us chose to view an aeronautical museum followed by a very delicious lunch at a restaurant on the grounds of a winery where we were offered wine tasting. We thought the tour would be about two hours but, as the opportunities for additional wine tasting continued the tour lasted about five hours. In the area surrounding Blenheim, there are a hundred or more different vineyards and wineries. Some vineyards are as small as six acres and some as large as two thousand acres. The Kiwi People (New Zealanders) seldom pronounce words using the short vowel sound. Example: left is pronounced with long e sound. Listening to an English speaking person who characteristically pronounces words this way is tiring to me because of needing to translate the word in my mind.
