Today, again, internet service was spasmodic. Following breakfast, we left to tour Kazuri Bead Making Factory. Ceramic plates and other items are also made there. We were able to purchase items in the gift shop. We went to the Baby Elephant Orphanage where baby elephants are rehabilitated following the death of the mother, often from poachers. Sometimes the babies fall in wells or have injuries to be healed. There were nine young elephants and nine older elephants. A caregiver even sleeps in a wooden shed at night with the elephants. When the elephants are out in the game park, an assigned caregiver is with it. Since the intent is to release the elephants out into the game park, great care is taken to keep the elephants from bonding with humans. While there, we also saw one of two young rhinoceros also being rehabilitated. Nearby, is the Giraffe Centre. We were able to observe and feed five of the nine giraffes at the Giraffe Centre. There were three small tortoises also there. Following, our return to Gracehouse, we did our final pack for flight. On the way to the Nairobi Airport, we stopped at an Arts/Crafts Center for additional shopping. I was not able to check in on line for my flight to Auckland, NZ. My check-in process at the airport was delayed, since New Zealand requires confirmation of the reason for my visit, and my ticket was not round trip. I am now waiting for boarding in the warm non-air-conditioned airport.
